Measure once, dive often

How to Measure

All DepthThread measurements are taken on a garment laid flat. Chest is the seam-to-seam width under the armpits, across the fullest part of the shirt, not the circumference — double it for the full chest number. Length is the high point of the shoulder to the bottom hem, measured down the center back. Sleeve is from the shoulder seam to the cuff along the outside of the arm. For the changing robe, robe length replaces shirt length — it is measured the same way (high point of shoulder to hem) but runs longer on purpose so the robe can be pulled over a wetsuit. Use a soft tape measure and lay the shirt smooth — rolling or stretching will give you a number off by half an inch, which is the difference between an XL and a 2XL on the table below.

Men's Shirts

The men's line is a regular fit, runs true-to-size, and is not vanity-sized — order the size you normally wear in a well-made cotton tee. Measurements in the table below are seam-to-seam across the chest, length down the center back from the high-point shoulder, and sleeve from the shoulder seam to the cuff. The fit is roomy enough to layer over a rash guard on a chill surface interval without pulling at the chest, but it is not a relaxed fit — if you sit between two sizes, see the between-sizes guidance below.

Size Chest (in) Length (in) Sleeve (in)
S 19 28 8
M 20 29 8.5
L 22 30 9
XL 24 31 9.5
2XL 26 32 10

Between Sizes? How It Fits

If you sit between two men's shirt sizes — say a chest measurement just over the L mark or you carry more through the shoulders — the answer is almost always to size up. The chest number in the chart is flat, so the actual worn circumference is roughly double; sizing up keeps the chest from hugging the ribs and makes a layering rash guard fit underneath cleanly. A 'regular fit' on the men's line means the tee sits comfortably across the chest with a half-inch of ease — close to the body, not tight. On the changing robe, 'relaxed' means there is materially more room in the body and the shoulders run broader than your measured frame would suggest; that is the point of the garment, and it is not sized the way the men's shirt is. If you are 5'7\" with a 42-inch chest, the S/M robe will cover the chest but ride above the knee; the L/XL will cover the knee and still close across the chest. Pick by height first, chest second.

What divers are saying

★★★★★

Wore The Wreck on a 90ft wreck dive and got three compliments before we even hit the ladder. Print still looks new after six saltwater rinses.

The cotton is heavier than I expected — feels like it was made for a wetsuit cover-up. Neckline has not warped after a dozen dives.

Bought it as a gift for my dive buddy, ended up ordering a second in Manta for myself. The back print is genuinely artistic, not tourist-trinket.
